Pastor Kisses Pig to Help Out Belvidere Family

[following article along with picture was sent off to the local area newspapers]

On April 11, 2008 the Larry Rogman Family survived a house fire. The fire did destroy the contents of the first floor of their home. Sadly, due to financial problems, the family did not have house insurance. Immediately, members of the Belvidere community and members of Zion Lutheran Church, Belvidere came to their rescue.

Zion Lutheran has continued their support of the family. The congregation has provided financial, spiritual and emotional support through the months of rebuilding. Members of the congregation have donated building supplies and installed them for no charge. But the costs are huge.

So Pastor Karl Otto offered a challenge: "If you raise an additional $500 during the month of July, I will kiss a pig."On Sunday, August 3, the congregation met his challenge and Pastor kept his promise. The money raised was matched by the Boone County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Pastor Otto thanks Mrs. Amy Saso for not only bringing the pig and but for washing his face too!

Contributions can still be made for the Rogman family through Zion Lutheran, 1300 Pearl Street, Belvidere.
